Living the American Dream

Just two weeks after the attacks of 9/11, we re-packaged this ‘Debra Duncan Show’ I produced on immigrants who came to America and found the American Dream. The revamped show then aired soon after 9/11, and thanks to patriotic fervor it was a ratings bonanza!

Here’s a little bit of the show– and one of my personal favorite immigrant stories from Houston: the Mickelis family. Sadly, many of the beautiful paintings by the family patriarch Nick Mickelis you see here from this taping in 2001 were destroyed or badly damaged in a fire that gutted the Cleburne Cafeteria in 2016. Thankfully, this interview at least preserves some of the deeply personal handiwork of Mr. Mickelis. . .
